30 Secrets of Penventon (Part 4)

Penventon Park Hotel Princess Anne Royal Visit

This week we are here to the very last selection of the Penventon Park Hotel ‘30 day secrets.’ We’ve loved sharing our stories behind our wonderful hotel and we know that its history, décor and heritage makes it that much more special.

If you missed the first set of secrets then you can check out the previous post on our blog which covers everything from the original owner’s background, Poldark history, ghost stories and our old nightclub Trumpets.

Secret #23 – Heritage & History

We love to help people connect with their ancestry here in Cornwall. Recently we had the honour of hosting blogger and journalist, Teryn Grey from California for a break away from the ordinary.

“My ancestry has always inspired me, it all began ten years ago when my teacher assigned the class a family history project. Little did I know, what I discovered then would someday take me on an amazing trip around the world. My latest stop: Cornwall.”

Read more about Teryn’s trip to Cornwall and her stay at the Penventon Park Hotel in the luxury Polo Lifestyle Magazine which is enjoyed by hedonistic readers across the globe. (Have a read here on page 106!)

Secret #24 – Arbour Area

‘To contemplate on reflection’ – this was the design concept that was used by interior designer Matt from Dynargh Design to create our sophisticated Arbour Area. Situated at the top of the copper staircase just past the bar, the Arbour Area oozes Georgian interior; with a gorgeous black chandelier, dark artwork mixed with brighter flowers, positioned on wallpaper with deep tones and acanthus leaves, a symbol of Greece around 450BC. The inspiration came from the ‘old Dutch masters,’ a period in Dutch history roughly spanning from the 17th century. Dutch artists focused on everyday scenes of ordinary life, expressed through a growing cadre of genre works, all indicative of the thriving creative period.

Come and relax in our Arbour Area with a coffee in hand, or even better, a glass of wine or a cocktail.

Secret #25 – Great Gardens of Cornwall

Cornwall will always be the number one destination for a staycation. It’s no doubt that Cornwall is loved by many because of its incredible beaches and coastline, but lets not forget about Cornwall’s outstanding gardens! Did you know that we offer a 20% discount on entry to the Lost Gardens of Heligan?

The Lost Gardens of Heligan has over 200 acres of garden history, mystery and romance. Twenty – five years ago, Heligan’s historic gardens were unknown and unseen; lost under a tangle of weeds. Today, the gardens are open to the public to explore.

Secret #26 – William IV

As you step into our lounge area you will notice the large painting of William IV on the left wall. An original painting, the Penventon Park Hotel wanted to take a step back in history and present guests with something a little far from the ordinary.

William IV was born at Buckingham Palace on the 21st August 1765 and was the third son of George III and Queen Charlotte. William inherited the throne at 64 years of age and was described as a warm-hearted old sailor, very genial yet breezy and quite eccentric. William IV served in the Royal Navy during the American War of Independence and took his duties as King seriously, despite his womanising ways. William IV died at Windsor Castle on 20th June 1837.

Secret #27 – The Grand Forum Ballroom

The Ballroom was certainly the place to be back in the day. Dressed with antique pieces and traditional décor, our ballroom has been used for decades to celebrate everything from weddings, birthday, retirements and everything in between. It’s tucked away downstairs and it even has its own stage and dance floor for guests to enjoy!

If you’re interested in hiring our ballroom then please send us an email or give us a call on 01209 203000 or events@penventon.com

Secret #28: Come and join us in our award winning restaurant for a laid back atmosphere and delicious dishes. Did you know that we also serve vegetarian and vegan dishes packed full of flavour? One of our favourites is the Buddha Bowl which contains spiced mange tout, red cabbage slaw, cumin infused brown rice, pumpkin seeds and crispy black kale

Secret 30: A Royal Visit

We had the pleasure of hosting Princess Anne at the Penventon Park Hotel in May 2019 for the Sense – connecting sight, sound and life ‘Get Out There’ Group’s 10th anniversary. Princess Anne is a patron of the organisation which supports people with complex disability to fulfil their potential.

The 13th in line to the throne was greeted by the Pascoe family upon arrival and then enjoyed the production that was held in our Ballroom as part of her latest royal engagement in the Duchy.
