We were delighted to welcome ‘insta famous’ pooches Maximus and Harper to our Georgian mansion in January and we’ve decided to share their Cornish experience with you. From their stay in one of our dog friendly superior garden rooms to blustery coastal walks, Charlotte takes you on a journey of their stay…

“Recently, we were lucky enough to be invited for a 3 night stay at the luxurious Penventon Park Hotel located in Redruth, Cornwall. So we packed our bags and headed off for an adventurous weekend away, I knew the dogs would just love it especially considering we were close to beautiful Cornish beaches!
Upon arrival we were welcomed by a lovely lady who showed us to our room: the dog friendly garden suite. This room has a classic country interior intertwined with grand, elegant features . Something I loved about the room was that, like all the garden suites, it has patio doors opening directly onto partially enclosed private gardens which is ideal for early morning and late night doggy toilet trips!
The beds are spacious and very cosy, you’re guaranteed a great night’s sleep to refuel for your awaiting adventures the following day! Furthermore, all dog friendly rooms also includes a sitting area, providing a perfect space to ensure you have a relaxing stay.”
“The room also has an impressive mini bar with lots of tasty treats for hungry guests! The kettle is kept here too alongside beautiful, delicate cups for your morning tea.
Dog beds, towels and bowls can be borrowed on request, which is a very helpful dog friendly touch (especially if you accidentally forget anything or simply don’t have enough room in your holiday bag!).
After we unpacked our bags, we headed out to investigate the close by beach: Porthtowan. This beautiful stretch of beach sits snug in between two cliffs, one of which offers a stunning cliff walk. Unfortunately we never got round to going on this walk, but it looked amazing. Like many beaches, there is a stream that flows down the beach that meets the sea, so you can guess where Max spent most of his time…”
“Returning to the hotel wet and sandy, we cleaned the dogs off before getting ready for dinner. Once we made ourselves look more presentable, we went for dinner which was very kindly set up for us in the secluded, quiet lounge so the dogs could join us. I really appreciated their willingness to compromise, the staff absolutely love dogs and are so friendly. We felt very welcomed.
For dinner I had a classic British dish: sausages and mash! It was delicious, the mash was fluffy and creamy and the succulent sausages were well-seasoned to compliment the food, with tasty gravy delicately poured over it. My taste buds were definitely satisfied!”
“So, with our stomachs nice and full we headed to bed to rest up for a busy day of exploring awaiting us the next day!
The next morning, after letting the dogs out in the little garden, we headed for breakfast which I was very excited about. The hotel offers you a wide range of breakfast options, there really is something for everybody. You can choose between a variety of cereals, croissants and cooked breakfast dishes. We were well and truly spoilt for choice. Being the indecisive, food loving person I am I had a bowl of cereal, a jam croissant and a full English tailored to my preferences… don’t judge!”
“Once again, the staff were absolutely lovely to us and set up a table in the grand open lounge so the dogs could join us. A lady called Maggie also treated the dogs to a plate of scrumptious sausages, lucky boys!
We spent our days making the most of being by the coast, firstly we visited St. Ives (one of my favourite Cornish seaside towns). We walked through the picturesque lanes and popped into The Salty Dog to buy some yummy dog treats before going to the little beach so the dogs could have a run around. This was the moment that Harper fell in love with water and swam for the very first time! After having lots of fun on the beach we had another wander through the streets and found ourselves at a much larger beach! Dogs are always so happy at the beach, it’s so heartwarming to see. Overall, it was the perfect day, the weather treated us well and it was relatively quiet; ideal for a day out with the dogs.”
“Once we had returned to the hotel, we cleaned up and headed to the lounge to play some card and board games. The hotel provides a selection of games for their guests to use, preparing you for a lovely, chilled out evening.
The next morning we investigated Pollyjoke beach which had been recommended to us and it certainly didn’t disappoint my relatively high expectations. The beach is stunning, nestled between cliffs with a beautiful valley walk behind it. It was a lovely way to spend the morning and the weather was gorgeous.”
“So, after another fun day on some gorgeous beaches, we decided to indulge ourselves with the hotels afternoon tea! We sat in the grand lounge in front of a beautiful open window where the dogs could join us. The afternoon tea arrives on gorgeous delicate tiers, with the food presented elegantly on each tier. Sticking to tradition, the sandwiches were placed at the bottom, the scones in the middle and the sugary treats at the top! I’m not lying when I say that the scones were the best I’ve ever had, and I can be quite fussy with scones. I’m not a fan of the stodgy texture, but these weren’t stodgy at all. They were soft, fluffy and buttery… delicious. On the other hand, I’m not fussy when it comes to deserts, I have a huge sweet tooth! The selection included brownies, cheesecake, macaroons and more. The treats were delicate and light, with rich, mouthwatering flavours fit for every sweet taste preference.”
“With our stomachs pleasantly full, we walked off our food on an evening walk at the beach and then went to bed before heading home the next day.
After packing our bags and checking out of the hotel we gave the dogs a run on Perranporth beach, a beautiful stretch of gorgeous golden sands. With the dogs worm out, we began our long journey home.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and were treated exceptionally well. I was very impressed with the hotel and the dogs had a great time!
