Spring is the perfect time to witness the natural beauty of Cornwall, as the great gardens burst to life with colourful flowers and greenery, such as giant rhododendrons and fragrant azaleas. In Spring, the vibrant bluebells blanket the rolling hills, creating a stunning sea of colour providing a fantastic photo opportunity. And the explosion of bright blooms and sights of striking wildlife makes taking a stroll through the gardens a must-do whilst visiting. Since Spring brings the sun along with it, you’ll finally be able to feel the warm rays on your face and the warming breeze will carry the scent of the blooming flowers as you walk through the gardens.

Costal

Godrevy – 24 minute drive away from us

Summer and Winter present different reasons for going on a coastal walk, but so does Spring; Not quite in the busy season yet, so you’re almost certain to have it to yourself, and not cold enough to have to wrap up from the frosty wind. Not to mention the fresh cliff-top flowers that would have only just sprouted, which will be sure to brighten up the view. The warming weather and clearer skies make it easy for you too see miles upon miles of bright blue sea.

Woodland

Tehidy Woods – 13 minute drive away from us

Though there are plenty of woodland and forest walks, we’re going to focus on Tehidy Woods. One of the largest areas of woodland in West Cornwall, covering around 250 acres, it is open to the public for free all year round and has a cafe, picnic areas and picnic area. There are several walking trails throughout the woods, ranging in length and difficulty, that take visitors through a variety of habitats, including various woodlands featuring towering oaks and graceful birches, ponds, and streams. Some trails are dog friendly, and suitable for prams and wheelchairs. The woods are also home to a wide range of wildlife, including birds, bats, and various mammals.
Locals tip: Bring some bird seed and nuts along with you… if you’re patient enough, the birds will eat from your hand and some squirrels are brave enough to take a nut from you!

Taking the plunge

Though the sea in Spring may still feel like taking a plunge in an ice bath, it’ll be sure to wake you up and give you a huge dose of endorphins. Grab your wetsuit, – or brave it in just your swimming costume, – grab your surfboard – or hire one from most beaches – and surf the perfect waves Spring seem to produce.

Dog owners rejoice, not only are we dog friendly but so is most of Cornwall! With an abundance of places to take your dog, you won’t have to worry about finding something the whole family can do. Yes, we’re talking about the dog, since we all know they’re family members too. While most beaches in Summer have dog bans – Spring does not! No need to worry about them getting their exercise in; beaches that seem to stretch on for miles will provide the perfect play place for your furry friend. That, alongside the myriad of countryside walks, you’ll have plenty to do and see with your dog. (Please note, we do not recommend taking your dog on a coastal walk, especially if you’re not used to them due to safety issues!).

Our dog friendly rooms are ideal for travelling with your furry companion, and our welcome baskets are sure to make them feel comfortable. Not to forget our doggy dining ‘Pooch Plates’ menu, designed specifically for not only a tasty meal but a nutritious one too! See our dog page here.
